This map is the metropolitan area in August. The west sits hotter and l’Albufera cooler. The dots are the two meteorological stations, in the city and at the airport.
On 16 August the ground by the airport reached 59.7°C, and on 17 August l’Albufera sat at 26.8°C. Both readings use the same scale so the contrast is visible.
The Urban Climate Index for the València metropolitan area, on the Mediterranean, ranks the 45 municipalities by their temperature in August 2026. València leads this list, at a temperature of 38.1°C, and Aldaia closes it.
If you live here or you are thinking of doing so, look at which municipalities ran cooler or hotter this August, and where you would like to spend more time.
The same index, across 81 barrios of the municipality of València, is another reading. The barrio and the municipality are published separately.
Cooler end of the ranking
València leads this ranking because the Turia, the gardens and huerta remain on urban ground. Alfafar follows it, still next to l’Albufera. The five best places are:

Why the ranking uses urban ground
L’Albufera is a wetland to the south: flooded rice and a lagoon. In August that ground stays cool because it is water and plant, not street. The ranking of municipalities uses urban ground. The metropolitan area, lagoon included, sits at 41.7°C, from 28.4°C to 56.6°C.
Alfafar, Massanassa, Silla and Catarroja look cool while the rice sits inside the mean. Alfafar moves from about 35.9°C to about 41.5°C and sits in 2nd place of 45. Massanassa sits in 17th place of 45. Catarroja sits in 33rd place of 45. València, at a temperature of 38.1°C on urban ground, sits in 1st place of 45.
Why Picassent sits 3rd and Aldaia 45th
Two meteorological stations cover the 45 municipalities. Thirty three read the air in València: damper, less rain. Twelve read it at the airport: drier, 24.5 mm of rain against 8.9 mm.
Picassent and Aldaia read the airport. Picassent’s ground sits around 41.9°C and Aldaia’s around 46.1°C. That is why Picassent sits in 3rd place of 45 and Aldaia last. Torrent reads the same airport and sits in 5th place of 45.
These figures are the August mean for the whole area, lagoon included: 41.7°C. A single satellite day can run cooler or hotter; the index uses the month.
The ground sits hotter than the air: 41.7°C surface against 28.6°C. The index is ordered with both readings.
Mislata sits halfway down the list
Mislata sits in 29th place of 45, at a temperature of 44.1°C on average, about halfway down the list. Anyone looking for cooler ground in the built area looks toward València, Alfafar and the edge of l’Albufera.
How August was built
This August brings together the usable satellite scenes after the cloud filter. Ground and station air are two different readings; the index uses both.
