Urban Climate Index · August 2026 · surface + two AEMET stations. Label ICU-VLC: municipality of València, 81 barrios. The green south is l’Albufera. The 26.8°C pin on 17 August sits there. The 54.9°C pin on 16 August falls on Benimàmet.
Neometrico, from Valencia, publishes the Urban Climate Index for August 2026 in the municipality of València: land surface temperature and two AEMET stations. On 16 August the ground in Benimàmet reached 54.9°C. The next day a satellite image measured 26.8°C in l’Albufera, outside the 81 barrios.
This note cites the index. The cut is the whole municipality, 81 barris with a polygon. The index ranks the heat of that August. Rent, schools and buying and selling sit outside. The tables live on barrios of València, August 2026.
The surface is the August satellite composite on urban land. The map of the city covers 139.5 km². The 81 barrios cover 82 km²; the hole is mostly l’Albufera. Air, humidity, rain and wind come from two AEMET stations: València, in the centre, and the airport. The UPV and Viveros stations sit outside. Each barrio takes the nearest station that has that variable.
The index adds surface heat, air and humidity, and subtracts a little rain. Surface weighs more. Humidity and rain only change Benimàmet’s place, because it is the only barrio that takes the airport station.
Pinedo comes first because of huerta and village
The municipality of València looks cool on the satellite because it includes l’Albufera, the green south. That cool is rice and lagoon, and the city core sits apart. Pinedo, to the south, still comes first in the index after the urban clip, because the remaining patches are huerta and village.
The index ranks the heat of August. A list of where people sleep starts further up. This cut is missing El Saler, El Palmar and El Perellonet, the lagoon hamlets.
The cooler built city: Botànic, Ciutat Vella, the Turia
If Pinedo is set aside, the August index points to the newer east with some open ground, to the north of the Turia and to the gardens. Penya-roja sits at 41.1°C on average. Trinitat, at 41.2°C. El Botànic, at 41.3°C, with the garden and the river. Exposició and el Grau follow at 41.6°C; el Grau meets the port and its minimum reaches 30.6°C by the water.
Behind them come el Pilar, el Mercat, el Carme, la Xerea and la Seu, between 41.7 and 42.1°C: the historic centre, Ciutat Vella. That is the cooler built city of this August, in the 41 to 42°C band, a long way from Pinedo’s 36.6°C.

How humidity and rain change the order
Almost every barrio, 80 of 81, takes the València station, in the centre: air at 28.6°C, humidity at 66%, 8.9 mm of rain and light wind. Only Benimàmet takes the airport station: air at 28.7°C, humidity at 58%, 24.5 mm and more wind. Meteorological stations enrich the surface with the air they measure. Here there are two, and the municipality of València splits into two airs: one humid and almost dry across eighty barrios, and a drier, stormier pocket in Benimàmet.
Benimàmet sits 76th, with about 45.0°C on the ground and the 54.9°C pin on 16 August. The place rises because it takes the airport station: drier air, more rain and more wind. The ground stays hot. The hardest mix of hot ground and sticky city air is Vara de Quart, la Raïosa and el Calvari.
The 24.5 mm at the airport is a couple of storms. The monthly surface stays hot. At 66% humidity in the centre, nights release heat more slowly. Cooler ground in el Carme and a dry night are two different readings.

August composite: mean 38.8°C, minimum 28.4°C, maximum 53.4°C. The 26.8°C on 17 August and the 54.9°C on 16 August are single images, not the monthly mean.

Surface and air are two magnitudes. At the València station the monthly mean sits 10.3°C above the air.
Russafa sits in the middle of the index
Russafa, the barrio often told as a refuge, sits 58th of 81, at 43.7°C on average. It is in the middle pack, with the same humid air from the València station. Anyone looking for the cooler ground of this August in the built city looks toward Ciutat Vella, el Botànic and the Turia.
A reading of one month, not a liveability ranking
The Urban Climate Index in this text is August 2026 in the municipality of València: surface plus two AEMET stations. Label ICU-VLC, 81 barrios. The index ranks the heat of that month. The cool sits in the garden, the river and the lagoon. The built city splits between a milder centre and a hotter west, with Benimàmet on airport air.
More months and more stations come later. This is the August reading.
